Staff Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Scientist to join our team at the University of Toronto. As a key member of our Acceleration Consortium, you will play a critical role in advancing the field of AI-driven autonomous discovery and developing the materials and molecules required to address society's largest challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement research programs that leverage our self-driving labs and support the research objectives of our faculty and industry partners.
- Work independently to design and implement research projects, including managing the research and development projects of our industry partners when implemented in our labs.
- Collaborate with our team of leading experts to develop the AI and automation technologies required to build robust and scalable self-driving labs.
- Manage the activities of a lab, including overseeing the work of team members and ensuring the successful execution of research projects.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners and stakeholders to advance our research goals.
- Prepare and submit research proposals to granting agencies and progress reports.
- Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and steward them through the publication process.
- Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, life sciences, physics, engineering, robotics, computer science, or related discipline.
- Five to 10 years of experience in accelerated research and development in the area of organic synthesis, organometallic catalysis, and computational chemistry.
- Strong experience and expert knowledge of AI and automation, including hardware integration for automation, high-throughput experimentation for dataset generation, AI utilization in experimental planning, and workflow establishment for seamless integration of experiments and simulations.
- Experience working with industry partners and on industry-led research and development projects.
- Strong experience presenting research at academic conferences.
- Demonstrated record of academic and/or research excellence.
- Strong publication record.
- Strong and effective communication skills in oral and written English.
