About the Role

The Assistant Manager Human Resources is a key member of our Human Resources team, responsible for overseeing and directing the HR team to ensure the divisional objectives are met. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising, planning, organizing, and implementing HR programs, as well as guiding the team towards meeting divisional objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provides Instruction and Guidance

Provides instruction, guidance, and leadership to Supervisors by assisting in solving day-to-day problems, utilizing the Magna Employee Charter while implementing the policies and procedures of the company.

Utilizes Interactive Management Principles

Utilizes interactive management principles when implementing progressive discipline procedures in dealing with unsatisfactory employees.

Conducts Performance Reviews

Conducts performance reviews at specified timeframes (annually, probationary, trial period).

Involves in Incident Investigations

Is involved in incident investigations in his/her area.

Remains Current on Human Relations

To remain current on all aspects of human relations, wage management, manpower planning, recruitment and selection strategies, health and safety, environmental, and training and development issues or trends and provide support, advise, or influence where appropriate/necessary, to all leaders regarding policies, procedures, work practices where there is the potential to negatively impact labour relations, quality of work life, or compliance to established standards (legislation, divisional, corporate).

Develops and Leads Direct Reports

Effectively develops and leads all direct reports within the HR Department to ensure all services are provided at the highest level of quality and timeliness while maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Fosters Strong Working Relationships

Develops and fosters strong working relationships with all employees, department managers, Management Team members, direct reports, committees, and teams so each will feel comfortable seeking support for HR-related issues, while reinforcing the Open-Door Process (ODP) and confidentiality.

Influences Labour Relation Strategies

Influences the development, implementation of, or changes, to labour relation strategies necessary to foster the Magna Employee's Charter Principles and preserve a strong cultural foundation, quality work life environment within the division and drive any resulting programs or strategies as assigned.

Develops and Oversees HR Systems

Assists in the development, implementation, and oversight of all HR systems for the division, including hiring, performance management, training & development, health & safety, environmental, and other HR systems required by the division.

Prepares and Submits HR Budget

Assists in the preparation, timely submission, and effective management of HR Dept. annual budget, and adherence to approved budget.

Establishes and Maintains Policies and Procedures

Assists in establishing and maintaining effective policies and procedures for the division to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all employees.

Attends Meetings and Committees

Attends meetings necessary to ensure ongoing understanding of quality of work life and labour relations' issues including Health and Safety committees, Advocate, Fairness Committee, Plant meetings, Production meetings, etc.

Supports Culture and Diversity

Supports culture/diversity management.

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Education

Must have completed post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or equivalent.

HRPA Designation

Completion of HRPA designation.

Leadership Experience

Minimum 5 years of leadership experience.

Excellent Communication Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent Analytical Skills

Excellent mathematical, analytical, organizational, and supervisory skills.

Able to Work in Various Locations

Able to work in various locations within and outside the plant.

Knowledge of Magna Tools and Policies

Knowledge of Magna tools and policies including safety policies.

Mature Attitude

Required to possess a mature, consistent attitude towards the responsibilities of the job.

Strong Leadership Skills

Must have strong leadership skills, must be able to lead by example whenever necessary and promote a team approach to problem-solving.

Sound Knowledge of Employment Legislative Requirements

Must have sound knowledge of employment-related legislative requirements.

Self-Motivated

Must be self-motivated and display the skills required to develop and motivate employees.

Ability to Work Under Pressure

Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects.
