About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child and Family Support Specialist to join our team at Native Child and Family Services of Toronto. As a key member of our team, you will provide holistic and culturally relevant support to community members based on their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Culturally Relevant Services: Deliver fair, respectful, and culturally relevant services to Indigenous children and families, consistent with our organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Community Program Research and Support: Participate with community members in researching and providing various community programs, resources, and services for case management needs of families.
  • Support Child and Family Wellbeing Workers: Assist Child and Family Wellbeing Workers with placement of children by accompanying them and handling instrumental and supportive tasks.
  • Home Visits and Documentation: Assist Child and Family Wellbeing Workers with home visits, when required, and gather documentation and information for case files.
  • Transportation and Child Care Assistance: Arrange transportation for children and families to attend visits, appointments, or court, and provide child care assistance during sessions with clients, when necessary.
  • Crisis Intervention: Intervene in crisis situations where risk to children exists and initiate timely response to ensure the safety of the child.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Post-Secondary Education: Post-secondary education in a related field, such as Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, etc.
  • Experience Working with Indigenous Peoples: 1 year of experience working with Indigenous peoples in a social services setting would be an asset.
  • Valid Driver's License and Vehicle: Valid Ontario 'G' class driver's license, daily access to a vehicle, and ability to work flexible hours.
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check: Produce a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Experience in counselling, case management, file maintenance, and statistical reporting; knowledge of First Nation, Inuit, and Metis culture and traditions, and urban Indigenous family dynamics; familiarity with the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act, and child protection processes and responsibilities.
