Job Description

As a Senior Mechanical Electrical Systems Estimator at Turner & Townsend Group, you will be responsible for producing accurate and detailed cost estimates for major infrastructure construction projects. Your expertise in Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems estimating will be essential in providing high-quality services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cost Estimation: Produce M&E cost estimates for major infrastructure construction projects from feasibility/concept design up to detailed design (pre-tender estimates).
  • Optioneering: Provide M&E associated costings of options as part of project Optioneering stages.
  • Cost Reconciliation: Provide M&E cost reconciliation cost estimates including associated justification to be presented to project clients and key stakeholders.
  • Value Engineering: Engage in value engineering workshops to identify cost savings and optimum solutions available for the client.
  • Target Price Development: Develop, validate, and control the Target Price within an Integrated Project Team.
  • Probabilistic Risk Assessment: Participate in probabilistic risk assessment workshops to calculate contingency provisions e.g., Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA).
  • Client Advice: Provide client advice on capital and operational expenditure (OPEX) element of the project (e.g., operation and maintenance, life cycle cost, whole life costs, etc.).
  • Cost Benchmarking: Produce cost benchmark for validation and target-setting on major infrastructure projects.
  • Stakeholder Management: Actively interface with project clients, key stakeholders, contractors, and consultants (engineering, etc.) during all project stages.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in close collaboration with high-performing project teams to ensure expectations are managed adequately and clients' goals are achieved.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: Proficient in reading and understanding M&E specifications, Single-Line Drawings, and Schematic Drawings.
  • Estimating Experience: Ability to perform sense checks on quantity take-offs.
  • Supplier Management: Experience with contacting suppliers and subcontractors to obtain current market prices for materials, equipment, and systems.
  • Negotiation Skills: Experienced in cost/claims negotiations with (sub)contractors or working for a General Contractor.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience working as a M&E estimator in the aviation sector.
  • Target Price Control: Experience in developing, validating, and controlling Target Price within a collaborative environment.
  • Education: Quantity Surveying / Civil Engineering / Construction Management Degree and/or M&E Certification or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years' experience in cost estimating positions across pre-contract/post-contract phases of infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Memberships: Membership of professional organisations is a bonus (e.g., CIQS / RICS / AACE).
  • Estimating Software: Knowledge and proficiency with estimating software used on major civil engineering projects.
