About the Role

The City of Port Coquitlam is seeking a visionary leader to oversee strategic policy programs and services related to long-range community planning. Reporting to the Director of Development Services, the Community Planning Manager will provide leadership, direction, consultation, and strategic advice to Senior Staff, Departments, and City Council on community planning policy.

This role involves developing, monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating the effectiveness of existing programs, planning policies, and regulations. The successful candidate will also attend meetings of Council, Committees of Council, and associated bodies, and develop and implement effective strategies to address emerging community needs and future community planning initiatives.

The ideal candidate will hold a post-graduate degree in planning or a related field and have six years of related experience in a municipal government setting, with three years of supervisory experience. A valid driver's license is required, and applicants under consideration will need to complete a police information check.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic policy programs and services related to long-range community planning
  • Provide leadership, direction, consultation, and strategic advice to Senior Staff, Departments, and City Council on community planning policy
  • Develop, monitor, review, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs, planning policies, and regulations
  • Attend meetings of Council, Committees of Council, and associated bodies
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to address emerging community needs and future community planning initiatives

Requirements

  • Post-graduate degree in planning or a related field
  • Six years of related experience in a municipal government setting
  • Three years of supervisory experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Police information check
