Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Mental Health Support Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for providing support to patients and clinical staff, ensuring the smooth operation of the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with life skills teaching opportunities such as making beds, cleaning, etc.
  • Prepare discharge summaries
  • Facilitate newcomers' group sessions
  • Participate in therapeutic and community meetings, addressing any issues or concerns
  • Monitor patient attendance and structure
  • Support patients when they are unable to remain in structure
  • Drive patients as required
  • Provide emotional support to patients when needed
  • Monitor patients needing computer/phone time for financial/legal/family issues, etc.
  • Conduct regular rounds of the facility, checking on patients and reporting any unusual incidents
  • Support patients and clinical staff in signing out and recording personal effects
  • Assist admissions department as required
  • Support clinical staff in discharging patients
  • Maintain up-to-date progress notes
  • Ensure the white book is up to date and managed effectively
  • Make available prescribed medications to patients as per Pharmacotherapy and Detox Policies & Procedures
  • Monitor all patient activities when counselling staff are not on the premises
  • Ensure the facility and patients are secure after scheduled daily activities have been completed
  • Lock all offices and group rooms after regular business hours
  • Notify management or medical director in case of emergencies or unusual circumstances
  • Document significant occurrences and general impressions of activities during the shift
  • Participate in case consultation and treatment coordination with other members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Administer first aid if trained in case of emergency
Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with a Certificate from a recognized Health Care Worker educational program or experience in a related field. Trauma-informed training/experience is an asset. A high school diploma or equivalent is also required.

Candidates must be able to read, write, communicate verbally and in writing, and understand and follow directions. A valid First Aid/CPR Level C certificate and Class 5 Drivers License in good standing are also necessary.
