Physician Mental Health Collaborator for Island Health

Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada Island Health Full time

This exciting opportunity at Island Health is ideal for Physicians with a passion for delivering exceptional care to individuals with mental health and substance use concerns.

The successful candidate will work in collaboration with Psychiatry to provide vital mental health services to patients in Nanaimo, ensuring timely access to necessary care. A consultation report will be generated and sent back to the referring primary care provider, facilitating seamless communication and coordination.

We welcome applications from qualified Physicians who can contribute to this important service, enabling patients with moderate MHSU concerns to be seen sooner rather than remaining on the Psychiatry waitlist. This collaborative role has significantly reduced the waitlist for Psychiatry, allowing those with more urgent or severe conditions to receive timely attention from a psychiatrist.

Patients requiring further urgent psychiatric care will be booked directly with the Psychiatrist. The GP Psych service operates through Island Health, Mental Health and Substance Use, with funding and supports provided by the Nanaimo Primary Care Network.

A key aspect of this position is the Electronic Medical Record system, Cerner, used to support patient care. The Physicians are responsible for managing their schedule, but contracted shifts for both direct and indirect patient care are expected to overlap with the Psychiatrist's availability.

Clinic Options: As a Physician Mental Health Collaborator, you can provide either virtual care (off-site) or in-person care located at MSHU Services at Brooks Landing.

In terms of compensation, we offer a competitive salary range of $250,000 - $350,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. If you're passionate about making a difference in the lives of your patients and contributing to the well-being of our community, please consider applying for this exciting opportunity.
