Job Summary

The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for the electrical operation, maintenance, and repair of production/manufacturing equipment and plant computerized building automation systems. This role requires expertise in electrical systems, including building and production/manufacturing systems, as well as knowledge of electrical utility systems for facilities and production/manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, maintains, adjusts, and repairs low-voltage electrical production/manufacturing equipment, including PLCs, servo drives, and servo/motion controllers.
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, adjusts, and repairs low-voltage electrical building equipment and systems, including generators, transformers, switchgear, controllers, VFDs, electronic circuits, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, and other transmission equipment.
  • Uses test instruments to diagnose problems, determine electrical load, and power quality.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electro-pneumatic HVAC and process control systems.
  • Updates current electrical drawings for facility and production/manufacturing equipment.
  • Coordinates completion of electrical equipment/machinery changes/modifications as a result of electrical safety authority or Pre-Start-Review inspector recommendations.
  • Coordinates and executes electrical Preventative Maintenance activities related to facility and production/manufacturing equipment.
  • Participates in Maintenance Shutdown activities, working independently or as part of a team on Maintenance assignments.
  • Works with users, other maintenance staff, and vendors to provide electrical and automation expertise, evaluating effectiveness of these systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Septodont facilities and production/manufacturing equipment.
  • Arranges for contracted services as required and supervises all work on electrical and automation systems.
  • Recognizes and/or anticipates problems, taking necessary actions and/or notifying responsible individuals to reduce impact on production schedules.
  • Ensures all electrical and automation work is completed according to respective codes.
  • Writes, evaluates, and maintains electrical and automation Standard Operating Procedures as required to ensure compliance with cGMP guidelines, established safety standards, and company goals.
  • Spearheads continuous improvement in electrical systems.
  • Supports the maintenance department in preventive maintenance of plant and production/manufacturing equipment, as well as emergency maintenance of plant and production/manufacturing equipment when scheduled to be on-call.
  • Supports the validation department in validation projects.
  • Supports the Engineering department in completion of electrical work required for new equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Observes and supports all safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Demonstrates the Company Mission, Vision, and Values Statements, policies, and current standard business practices.
  • Follows GMP and regulatory requirements, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution is required. Must have an Ontario Industrial Electrician and/or Construction and Maintenance Electrical License.

Experience

  • Expert knowledge in maintaining electrical systems within a manufacturing environment, including building and production/manufacturing systems.
  • Advanced knowledge in Allen Bradley, Siemens PLCs, servo/motion controllers, VFDs - considered an asset.
  • Understanding of electrical utility systems for facilities as well as production/manufacturing equipment, including instrumentation and field control devices.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret electrical and control drawings/schematics.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of GMP and other related regulations.
  • Safety-focused with knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure under tight timeframes.
  • Effective organizational, time management, and detail-orientation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven analytical, trouble-shooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible when it comes to shift work.
