About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Claims Specialist to join our team at Definity Financial. As a key member of our claims team, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of large complex claims, including large CGL claims.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coach and mentor junior staff to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.
  • Engage with all stakeholders, including underwriting, reinsurance, actuary, and senior leadership, to effectively manage claims and achieve successful outcomes.
  • Assist in quality assurance audits of claims staff, vendors, and brokers to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Represent Definity Financial in litigation, mediation, and alternate dispute processes.
  • Provide technical support and training to team members to help them develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and vendors to ensure that all interactions are professional, friendly, and courteous.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure to ensure that claims are managed efficiently and effectively.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve your adjusting experience and personal learnings.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with stakeholders.
  • Work independently to manage claims and make decisions in a timely and effective manner.
Requirements
  • University degree in any discipline or a 2-year college diploma from a provincially recognized and funded community college or fully completed CIP designation.
  • Bilingualism in both English and French is an asset.
  • A minimum of years general claims handling experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years claims experience handling large CGL and/or bodily injury claims.
  • Experience with mediation, arbitration, and litigation.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and strong computer skills.

Actual salary for the role may vary depending on work location of the successful candidate and other factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, working conditions and the local labour market. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may participate in various incentive plans which are paid out at the discretion of the company and subject to individual and company performance.
