Key Responsibilities

The Government of Alberta, Construction and Maintenance within Transportation and Economic Corridors seeks a Development and Planning Technologist to support their team in Red Deer and Camrose. The successful candidate will determine and enforce setback requirements for developments, present the department's position on relevant legislation, and minimize the Department's exposure to risk of litigation.

The Development and Planning Technologist will interact with various clients, including landowners, commercial business operators, developers, and government agencies. Key responsibilities include:

  • Issuing Roadside Development Permits for highway vicinity developments.
  • Reviewing Planning referrals for land use re-designation, subdivisions, and development permit applications.
  • Performing activities related to highway right-of-way, field inspections, sign approvals, and traffic accommodation strategies.
  • Reviewing internal and external requests regarding road closures and property dispositions.
  • Maintaining professional contact with stakeholders, attending public meetings, and preparing Action Requests through briefing notes.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders. A strong understanding of relevant legislation and regulations is essential.
