About the Opportunity

This position is responsible for leading and directing research and evaluation activities within the City of Red Deer's social infrastructure, economic, and environmental needs. The Specialist is expected to interpret a broad range of public policy and legislation to inform and advise staff, and lead community organizations toward effective research and evaluation practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and carry out relevant research and evaluation initiatives to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Manage research grants and provide technical expertise.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve community development goals.
  • Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to build capacity and promote social impact.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to staff and community members on research and evaluation methodologies.
  • Stay up-to-date with population health, demographics, and socio-economic trends to inform research and evaluation activities.
Requirements
  • University graduate (Masters) degree with major concentration in community health, social development, human ecology, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Five years of experience in the public service or social service field with extensive knowledge and practice in social and community development, evaluation, and program monitoring.
  • Advanced academic training and skill in research methodologies and knowledge transfer.
  • Leadership experience in evidence-based decision making in public policy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to speak and write effectively at an academic level.
