Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Neurodegenerative Disease

The AlzForum Foundation Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our team at the University of Calgary. This exciting opportunity will involve conducting cutting-edge research on prion infection and molecular mechanisms underlying chronic wasting disease (CWD) in cervids.
About the PositionWe are offering a competitive salary of $65,000 CAD per annum, commensurate with experience, to work on projects related to cell biology of prion infection and CWD pathogenesis.
As a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, you will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art cell and ex vivo models of prion infection, including primary neurons and organotypic slice cultures. Your research will focus on understanding the impact of prion infection on endocytic pathways, membrane properties, and stress responses in prion infection, depending on cell type and prion strain.
Key Responsibilities- Design and execute experiments using cell models, including primary cells, confocal microscopy, and mouse handling;
- Analyze and interpret data from protein analytical methods and biochemical assays;
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop new research directions and ideas;
- Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences;
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of research activities and outcomes;
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Ph.D. in biochemistry, neuroscience, infectious diseases or related fields within the last two years;
- Demonstrated experience with cell models, confocal microscopy, mouse handling, and protein analytical methods;
- A strong interest in prions and neurodegenerative diseases, with previous experience with prions, prion-like diseases, and methods such as BioID being an asset;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- At least one first-author manuscript published or in preparation;
