Overview

The Alberta Energy Regulator is seeking a seasoned Compliance Auditor to join the Regulatory Compliance Branch, focusing on routine audits, supporting complex compliance assurance activities, and verifying adherence to regulatory requirements.

About the Role

This Compliance Auditor will conduct thorough audits to ensure compliance with measurement and reporting regulatory requirements. Through the Enhanced Production Audit Program (EPAP), you will identify, compile, and analyze information to enhance the accuracy and completeness of volumetric data reported to PETRINEX and improve industry compliance with AER measurement and reporting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster and support all planning and reporting activities in alignment with AER policies, procedures, the Compliance Assurance Program, and the Branch Operational Plan.
  • Work collaboratively with industry to support the operation of the EPAP by reviewing annual operator declarations to assess the control environment over measurement and reporting, collaborating with operators in remediating deficient measurement and reporting controls, and managing action items and voluntary self-disclosures.
  • Lead and conduct complex audits on operations within the AER's jurisdiction, involving data analysis, audit preparation, response analysis, and follow-through with the AER's compliance assurance framework.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and storage of audit files.
  • Respond to inquiries and lead others in handling stakeholder complaints. Coordinate technical review of complex complaints with other AER stakeholders.
  • Contribute to AER initiatives related to operational needs, regulatory, and technical issues as required.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A Degree in environment, oil & gas or related education.
  • At least 8 years of directly related experience in auditing or related oil & gas experience.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements Directive 076, Directive 017, Directive 007, Petrinex is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using advanced functions in MS Excel and SQL queries is considered an asset.
  • CANPAA certification is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills by maintaining clear work documentation/tracking and prioritizing work based on risk and value.
