About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Appraisal Specialist to join our team at Intact Financial Corporation. As an Appraisal Specialist, you will play a critical role in determining the causes and origin of damage to vehicles, examining the vehicle using specialized software, and assessing and approving repair estimates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Determine the causes and origin of damage to vehicles by examining the vehicle using specialized software.
  • Review field claims and internal office image desk files as needed.
  • Assess and approve repair estimates for claims adjusters by comparing the estimate to the assessment made on examination of the vehicle.
  • Establish the market value of vehicles based on information provided by claims adjusters, using various tools outlined in the appraisers' standards and procedures manual.
  • Use digital automated evaluation systems to standardize repair estimates and avoid errors.
  • Negotiate and communicate a best repair practice or procedure.
  • Ensure productivity and service quality, using the appraisers' standards and procedures manual and relating performance to the Claims Department's quantitative and qualitative objectives.

Requirements

  • College Diploma or equivalent Trade's person license or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Collision estimating or repair experience, including knowledge of estimating software (Qapter and Mitchell).
  • Minimum 3 years experience estimating heavy trucks including makes like Peterbilt, Kenworth and Recreational Vehicles is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice during high volume times. Overnights may involved.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and techniques of automobile physical damage repairs and replacement.
  • Commitment to continuing education.
  • Ability to handle a fast pace environment.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the collision repair industry.
  • Strong analytical skills to define problems/issues, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to prepare auto repair estimates using Qapter/Mitchell.
  • Estimating Software and have open communications with shop owners, managers and appraisers during the appraisal process.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and good written communication skills to draft claims reports.
  • Must be customer driven.
  • Excel/word document experience will be an asset.
