The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre (HRIC) is a leading Indigenous not-for-profit organization dedicated to driving positive change in the community. As a staff member of HRIC, you will have opportunities for professional growth, access to Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers, and a generous benefit package.
We strive to uphold pre-colonial management and policy structure, while maintaining a supportive and positive work atmosphere. Our organization is committed to providing a barrier-free work environment, in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Indigenous Housing Liaison to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading an effort to effectively market HRIC's housing programs to new and existing landlords and property managers, with the goal of expanding the number of units available to program participants.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the barriers to accessing and maintaining housing from an Indigenous perspective, as well as experience working within the housing sector. They will also possess excellent communication, listening, and interview skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Identifying permanent housing units in the rental market in the Hamilton area
- Developing partnerships with landlords to overcome barriers that prevent participant households from obtaining permanent housing
- Working closely with the Urban Indigenous Homeward Bound Navigators and other HRIC staff to ensure participants can access and sustain housing
- Providing community education on eviction prevention, landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities
- Acting as a resource to program participants
The successful candidate will have a college diploma in Social Services, Indigenous Studies, or a combination of relevant education and experience. They will also possess a valid driver's license with a clear driving record and have access to reliable transportation.
We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as opportunities for professional growth and development. If you are a motivated and dedicated individual who is passionate about making a difference in the Indigenous community, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
