Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Procurement Category Manager to join our team at Unified Purchasing Group (Canada) Inc. as a key member of our procurement team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing assigned categories, specifically processed protein, to ensure a continuous supply chain and foster collaborative relationships with suppliers, brands, and franchise partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the procurement process for assigned categories, including processed protein, to ensure the best combination of quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Develop and execute buying and distribution strategies for assigned categories, including market research and analysis.
  • Lead supplier discussions and negotiations to achieve the best possible terms and conditions.
  • Conduct regular business reviews with suppliers to ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
  • Manage supplier performance and maintain credible value-driven relationships.
  • Oversee the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) process to ensure smooth operations.
  • Monitor market trends and maintain accurate knowledge of materials and costs.
  • Develop contingency and risk mitigation strategies to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.
Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with processed protein sourcing, including industry standards and quality control practices.
  • Project management and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Experience in buying and successful negotiations, with a deep understanding of sourcing and supply chain management.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and excellent mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to work professionally to resolve problems and maintain a positive working relationship.
Education and Experience
  • Community College Diploma or University degree in Business or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years' experience in a similar capacity, preferably in the food manufacturing or food service industry.
  • Experience in the Food Services Industry, with a specialty in processed protein, including a deep understanding of sourcing, supply chain management, and market trends specific to protein products.
