Job Title: Conflicts Coordinator

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Conflicts Coordinator to join our team at McCarthy Tétrault. As a key member of our compliance team, you will be responsible for performing conflict of interest searches, analyzing corporate family tree research, and managing compliance surrounding Anti-Money Laundering (AML) processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform conflict of interest searches in various databases to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze corporate family tree research to improve the relevance of conflict reports for lawyers.
  • Manage compliance surrounding AML processes to reduce exposure and risk for the firm.
  • Process requests for opening new clients and matters, and obtain all relevant information.
  • Provide training and assistance to legal assistants and lawyers regarding required information for accurate and timely client and matter opening.
  • Review Know Your Client (KYC) requirements and request further identification from lawyers/legal assistants when necessary.
  • Update and ensure integrity of existing information pertaining to client matters and client contacts in the accounting database.
  • Assess correct tax to be applied on new matters based on Place of Supply and PST rules.
  • Manage information relating to billing formats and e-billing clients.
  • Generate and organize lateral hire conflict reports in a timely manner and ensure necessary security is applied to confidential and sensitive data.
  • Oversee the firm's engagement letter process and repository, ensuring that executed engagement agreements are in place in accordance with the firm's policy.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education related to or including accounting or database management principles.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of related experience, ideally acquired in a legal or professional services environment.
  • Accounting knowledge, gained through post-secondary education or experience.
  • Bilingual (English/French) with excellent verbal and written communication skills is an asset.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of business and legal terminology.
