Job Title: Senior Safety Advisor, Safety Resources



The University of Saskatchewan seeks a highly skilled Senior Safety Advisor to join its Safety Resources team. This key role plays a crucial part in promoting a safe and healthy environment at the University. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the University's Safety Management Systems, focusing on reducing injury rates within various departments and units.



Key Responsibilities:




  • Develop and implement injury prevention strategies, focusing on priority areas as directed by Safety Resources management.
  • Conduct incident investigations, reporting, and implementing corrective measures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Lead the development of safety training programs and ensure effective internal and external communications.
  • Provide oversight and case management for Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) recordable incidents and injuries, managing files and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Develop and communicate reports on incident/injury statistics, highlighting trends and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with management and other University leaders to implement Health and Safety programs, prioritizing departments or work groups with higher safety hazards, risks, and incident rates.


Requirements:




  • Post-secondary education and/or an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Practitioner Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in health and safety, with extensive knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, regulations, and legislation.
  • Experience in conducting investigations, communicating findings and recommendations, providing health and safety training, managing WCB claims, and implementing Safety Management Systems.
  • Preferred: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant designation.
  • Experience in a unionized and/or post-secondary academic environment is an asset.
  • Experience in a veterinary or animal care setting is an asset.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills, including managing competing priorities and time management.
  • Understanding and demonstrated ability in adult training principles.
  • Proficient computer skills.


Working Conditions:



The Senior Safety Advisor may work in potentially hazardous environments and could be required to respond to emergencies during and outside regular work hours. Confidentiality and discretion are crucial, as the position involves handling sensitive information.
