Occupational Health and Safety Specialist

At the Administration portuaire de Montréal, we are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. As an Advisor, OHS and well-being, you will play a key role in advising and assisting our internal stakeholders on health and safety issues.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating various occupational health and safety programs, procedures and processes. They will contribute to a culture of prevention for all MPA stakeholders, including contractors.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the Occupational Health, Safety and Well-being Manager and their internal clients in developing and implementing programs, procedures and processes
  • Establish an OHS work environment and climate focused on prevention and develop OHS employee training
  • Coordinate health and safety training activities and conduct training sessions from time to time
  • Ensure that prevention best practices and work procedures are maintained, implemented and updated
  • Participate in health and safety committees and conduct audits and site inspections
  • Oversee prevention programs for contractors and subcontractors and manage the contractor management software (CMS)
  • Conduct risk analyses and create, implement, monitor and update preventive measures
  • Advise internal clients, assess compliance requirements, and recommend effective risk management measures
  • Review and approve new chemicals and educate managers and employees about health and safety procedures
  • Act as a contact person for governmental health and safety bodies and participate in continuous improvement of processes
  • Manage compensation and return to work files

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial relations or a related field and a certificate in occupational health and safety
  • A minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years practical experience in a similar position in a unionized environment
  • Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulations, ideally in a company whose activities are under federal jurisdictions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and work in a team environment with shifting priorities
  • Excellent planning, organizational, coaching and management skills with the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously
  • Expert knowledge of Office 365 suite and proficiency with common OHS management software programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French
  • Ability to work autonomously and take initiative
