Job Description

The Occupational Health Specialist – Environmental Safety Professional at CN is a key member of the Industrial Hygiene team, responsible for collecting and evaluating data to protect employees and the community.

About the Role

This role involves conducting workplace monitoring for noise and airborne hazards across operational departments. After an initial orientation, the incumbent works with supervisors and Safety team members on their projects, providing daily or weekly reports on progress and challenges incurred.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct noise monitoring during locomotive train operations and yard activities
  • Perform air monitoring for silica, diesel particulate matter, and lead as per operational department needs
  • Evaluate workplace task biomechanics for Transportation, Engineering, and Mechanical departments using Soter Analytics Video Software
  • Test various biomechanical improvements, evaluate them using OSHA and NIOSH applications, and provide best practice recommendations
  • Provide coaching and feedback to various groups on proper biomechanics
  • Develop education materials based on industrial hygiene assessments and employee feedback
  • Evaluate CN's compliance with the OSHA Hazard Communication program or Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (COHSR) Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System program
  • Perform spot inspections of hazardous materials inventories and update them accordingly
  • Resolve if the Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) are available in the system and update them accordingly

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Occasional travel (30%) within Canada and the United States required

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years completed of a Bachelor's Degree in an Occupational Safety and Health Field or Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • Working towards a Master's Degree in an Occupational Safety and Health field*

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset.
