About This Opportunity
Black & McDonald's Western Utilities team in Calgary is seeking a skilled and experienced Field Operations Supervisor to join their team. If you are a collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working and innovative team, this opportunity is for you.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing all field construction among various trades on projects or across a portfolio of work. This includes planning, organizing, direction, and controlling various aspects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and provide leadership for health, safety, environment, and quality programs and policies
- Assist Project Managers in the planning of assigned projects
- Execute plans and evaluate schedules and site personnel to ensure project objectives are met
- Provide leadership to Forepersons and prioritize work accordingly
- Oversee site safety and quality control personnel
- Hire and supervise the activities of subcontractors and subordinate staff
- Build and maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships
- Monitor job costing, reporting, forecasting, and productivity
- Oversee field administration: timesheets, project reports, and material purchases
- Review work/contracts/Work in Progress for areas of risk and correct deficiencies
- Act as brand ambassador for Black & McDonald

Education Requirements
- Trade Qualification and/or have a Technical Diploma or Engineering Degree background to complement 10+ years field experience
Work Experience Requirements
- 10+ years of field experience in utilities construction, including streetlight & traffic, including Superintendent experience
- Road overhead sign experience
- Ground disturbance, cable & conduit trenching, excavation & backfilling experience
Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements
- Ability to set standards for success; empowers field workers to do their best
- Advanced site safety supervision; ensures every project is executed with the highest regard for safety standards, fostering a culture of wellbeing and security
- Ability to read drawings and project/structural design interpretation
- Strong understanding of building materials and systems
- Established track record in project planning and scheduling, contract management, and risk management
- Experience in navigating disputes and negotiating resolutions
- Clean Class 5 AB Drivers' License and Abstract is required
