The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Physics Laboratory Instructor to join our team at Douglas College. As a Laboratory Technician IV, you will be responsible for providing laboratory instruction, evaluation, and supervision of students in the physics laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide laboratory instruction and demonstration related to college physics courses, including instructing students on safety procedures and supervising students in the laboratory.
  • Evaluate student work and performance in relation to laboratory requirements, including assessing and assigning final laboratory grades.
  • Prepare materials for use in the laboratory, subject to the curricula approval of the Physics faculty, including assessing new information and determining its relative value in relation to facilitating student learning.
  • Perform other related duties, including creating, maintaining, and updating report sheets, and maintaining records of physics laboratory grades.

Requirements

  • Good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal).
  • B.Sc. in Physics from a recognized post-secondary educational institution or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Good working knowledge of course content, operation, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate courteously and effectively in person, in writing, and over the telephone with students, faculty, administrators, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain current knowledge in the field of Physics.
  • Proven ability to effectively demonstrate proper laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision and establish priorities and achieve deadlines.
