Job Summary

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our 5 West Medicine team at the Hamilton General Hospital. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality care to acutely ill, primarily geriatric patients with complex medical issues.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, performing wound care, and managing IV lines.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Participate in patient and family-centered care, promoting a positive and supportive environment.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of unit-based initiatives to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  • Participate in ongoing education and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Current certificates or current community college studies in asepsis, wound care, airway management, complex wound care, physical assessment, urinary catheterization, administering enteral feeds, medication administration, and transcribing physician orders.
  • Documented completion of a recognized IV administration and IV Management, Venipuncture and Blood and Blood Products Administration course.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Two (2) years of relevant nursing experience (within the last 2 years) in acute medicine.
  • Completion of Critical Practice Orientation (CPO) or interested in and ability to complete CPO Telemetry training offered by HHS.
  • Demonstrated ability to function within an interdisciplinary team including nursing collaboration with RN and other members of the health care team.
  • Demonstrated ability to function in environments that are fast-paced and that have moderately complex care requirements.
  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
  • Ability to set priorities and organize work in response to patient needs.
