About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Transportation Director - Rail to lead our domestic transportation department, working closely with sales, operational, and administrative teams. The successful candidate will have a strong focus on sustaining superior customer service and performance while driving growth and adapting to market trends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Domestic Transportation Department: Manage the transportation of several million tons of materials from over 40 locations in North America annually, ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations.
  • Develop and Implement Growth Strategies: Assist in the development of future growth within the company, adapting the department to changing market trends and evolutions.
  • Improve Efficiencies and Customer Satisfaction: Continuously seek ways to improve efficiencies, customer satisfaction, cost, performance, and safety.
  • Manage Rail Fleet Operations: Supervise rail fleet operations teams, mentor and develop a network of service providers within North America.
  • Oversee Railway Transportation Department: General management and strategic review for the railway transportation department, including 2500 company-owned railcars.
  • Lead Rate and Service Negotiations: Lead rate and service negotiations with current and new rail service providers.
  • Develop and Implement KPIs and Controls: Develop and put in place KPIs and controls to measure departmental performance.
  • Act as Railway Transportation Advisor: Act as the railway transportation advisor to the commercial and operational managers, as well as other department heads and upper management.
  • Manage 3rd Party Trucking Contracts: Execute and manage contracts with 3rd party trucking vendors.
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 Years of Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in logistics with direct railway exposure.
  • Senior Leadership Experience: Demonstrated senior leadership and decision-making track record in fast-paced, high growth environments.
  • Business Acumen and Problem-Solving Skills: Pronounced business acumen and problem-solving skills, analytical and creative thinker, adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity and change.
  • Change Management and Project Management Experience: Experience in change management and project management.
  • Railway Transport Regulations: Experience with railway transport regulations and administrative requirements preferred but not required.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, including bilingual - English and French required.
