Heavy Duty Mechanic

The Government of Saskatchewan is seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our Fleet Services Branch, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and modifying all types of trucks, highway construction and maintenance equipment, light vehicles, and various types of other equipment used in highway maintenance and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections to all types of trucks, highway construction and maintenance equipment with services performed in the shop and in the field.
- Diagnose equipment problems using mechanical, electrical, and computerized test equipment; determine method of repair and cost/time associated with the repair.
- Repair equipment including mechanical, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems by replacing, fabricating, or revising parts and components.
- Perform equipment maintenance such as fluid/filter changes; replace brakes, exhaust systems, hydraulic hoses, etc.
- Develop/modify new and existing equipment or systems as assigned.
- Enter and retrieve data on the computer.
- Be required to travel with the possibility of overnight stays.
Requirements
- A valid Journeyperson Certificate recognized by the Province of Saskatchewan in one of the following trades: Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic, Truck and Transport Mechanic, Agricultural Machinery Technician.
- Candidates in their 3rd or 4th year apprenticeship in the trades listed above may also be considered.
