Assistant Professor of Applied and Environmental Microbiology

Job Summary:

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at The University of British Columbia is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor to join our faculty. We are looking for a highly qualified candidate with expertise in microbial physiology, metabolism, or ecology. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an innovative research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and contribute to the department's service and outreach activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain an externally-funded research program in microbial physiology, metabolism, or ecology
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology and related fields
  • Supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
  • Contribute to departmental service and outreach activities
Requirements:
  • PhD in Microbiology or a related field
  • Postdoctoral experience in a relevant area
  • Strong record of research achievements and publications
  • Ability to teach courses in microbiology and related fields
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in microbial ecology, physiology, or metabolism
  • Strong commitment to creating a welcoming community for all, particularly those who are historically, persistently, or systemically marginalized
