We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Compliance and Privacy Lawyer to join our team at Intact Financial Corporation. As an Associate Senior Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting our insurance brokerage subsidiaries in identifying and managing legal, regulatory, compliance, and reputational risks.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as Associate Senior Counsel on behalf of Intact Financial Corporation and its subsidiaries, primarily in the areas of insurance brokerage compliance and privacy.
  • Acting as a strategic liaison between the wholly owned insurance brokerage and Intact's Legal and Compliance department.
  • Supporting in all areas of our compliance framework, including providing legal and regulatory advice and guidance on compliance and privacy-related matters and projects, regulatory reporting and engagement, compliance training and awareness, and conducting compliance risk assessments.
  • Ensuring the integrity and values of the organization are always respected.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing legal and regulatory advice and guidance on compliance and privacy-related matters and projects.
  • Supporting regulatory matters including regulatory reporting and engagement.
  • Leading and overseeing compliance training and awareness.
  • Conducting compliance risk assessments.
  • Playing an active role in supporting stakeholders in the management of compliance and privacy incidents and breaches.
  • Proactively developing and/or implementing policies, procedures, and best practices.

Requirements:

  • Member of the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in compliance or privacy law at a large in-house department or insurance brokerage.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, training, and communication skills.
  • Confidence managing files independently with minimal support.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to assess the practical implications of legal risks.
  • Ability to proactively identify legal and reputational risks and propose innovative business solutions.
  • Ability to build relationships with business units and stakeholders and influence decision-making at the operational and corporate level.
  • Ability to collaborate well with others.
  • Capacity to prioritize and handle several files and projects at once.
  • Comfort with technology tools, including good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in French and experience with Quebec law would be an asset but is not required.
