Senior Operations Technician – LNG Process

The Woodfibre LNG Project is a liquefied natural gas export facility located in Squamish, British Columbia. The project involves the construction and operation of an LNG plant on a previous pulp mill site with a storage capacity of 250,000 m3. It would produce approximately 2 million tons of LNG per year.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited. As a Senior Operations Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting the operations team through the design development stage, construction, commissioning, and operational phase of the project.

Your primary responsibility will be to monitor process conditions and take proactive measures to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of the Woodfibre LNG Plant. You will also contribute to the development of site-wide operating procedures and training materials.

The successful applicant will:

  • Participate in DCS graphic builds, ICSS FAT and SATs, OTS FATs SATs, Alarm Rationalization Workshops, HAZOPS, 3D model reviews, P&ID verification, and detailed engineering reviews as required.
  • Support the development of site-wide operating procedures and training materials.
  • Ensure facility operability and maintainability, as well as all required safety and environmental aspects, to operate an LNG facility.
  • Oversight of all control panel operations of the LNG process area and direct field operations accordingly to ensure safe and efficient operations of the facility.
  • Support commissioning of the project through loop checking testing of the DCS and safety systems.
  • Interface with project staff, contractors, Woodfibre staff, and management during all phases of commissioning and start-up.
  • Proactively monitor the status of plant operation and equipment performance at the DCS panel to mitigate threats to availability and reliability during their shift.
  • Support permit-to-work (PTW) including functionality, improvements, isolations standards, competencies, issuing, precautions, compliance, auditing, PTW manual improvement, and authorization.
  • Support the development and implementation of checklists and routines for plant and equipment.
  • Timely prepare and deliver a correct plant daily shift report to the Shift Superintendent in support of safe and complete handover at the end of shift.
  • Interface with engineering for integrity monitoring, troubleshooting, and compliance checks.
  • Interface with the HSSE department for compliance monitoring and improvements.
  • Proactively support the implementation of best practices.
  • Coach and teach peer operators in panel training to achieve full competency.
  • Support input for the plant risk register and mitigation tracking process for operations.

HSSE:

  • Maintain 100% compliance with company HSE policies and guidelines.
  • Lead HSE shift meetings/safety walks/audits if and when required.
  • Intervene timely to mitigate risks and ensure safety of personnel and plant.
  • Ensure Shift Operations Emergency Response capabilities are 100% met during shift periods.
  • Prior experience during project phases, including commissioning and start-up.
  • Fully versed in managing safe work through the Permit to Work system.
  • Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams, contractors, in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks, targets, and changing priorities within tight time frames.
  • Expertise with various computer programs.
  • A valid driver's license (with abstract) and passport.
  • This role will be a combination of office and site-based duties.
  • The position is based in Squamish, BC (project site), and may require work in the Company's Vancouver Office as needed.

Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per annum, depending on experience
