Job Description

The Strategic HR Director role at Douglas College offers a unique opportunity to lead the human resources function and contribute to the organization's success.

About the Job

This is a senior leadership position responsible for providing strategic direction and guidance on all aspects of HR, including employee and labour relations, collective agreement administration, recruitment, and HR operations. The successful candidate will be an experienced HR professional with a strong background in labour relations and a proven track record of leading high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive HR strategies aligned with the college's goals and objectives. Provide expert advice and guidance to leaders on human resources, employee, and labour relations matters.
  • Labour Relations: Oversee all labour relations activities, including collective agreement administration, grievance handling, and arbitration processes. Build positive working relationships with union representatives and conduct research to inform bargaining priorities.
  • Recruitment and Talent Management: Lead the development and implementation of recruitment strategies and procedures to attract and retain top talent. Manage the recruitment process, from job posting to onboarding, ensuring timely and effective delivery of HR services.
  • Team Leadership: Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to a team of HR professionals. Foster a culture of collaboration, service excellence, and continuous improvement within the HR department.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Education: Post-secondary degree in a related field, such as Human Resources, Law, or Business Administration, and a CPHR designation.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible HR/labour relations experience in a complex unionized environment, with 5 years in a managerial role. Public sector experience is preferred.
  • Skills: Excellent knowledge of current labour, employment, and human rights law. Strong business acumen, collaborative leadership style, and excellent communication skills.
Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on experience. Additional benefits include a comprehensive pension plan, extended health and dental coverage, and generous paid time off.
