Job Summary

The Energy Specialist will play a crucial role in identifying, designing, and implementing plans and actions to improve energy performance at the Cambridge site, aligning with Septodont's global sustainability plans and strategies. This position will drive site initiatives and actions to maintain compliance and achieve sustainability objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage an energy dashboard, monitoring system, and utilities consumption analysis.
  • Implement and maintain energy performance management, including electric, gas, and water monitoring.
  • Create and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for utilities consumption and propose action plans to improve performance and generate savings.
  • Provide recommendations to local and global leadership on energy policies, roadmaps, and sustainability plans.
  • Develop and use energy models to represent energy use and consumption at workcentre, equipment, and facility levels.
  • Identify, develop, and implement projects to meet energy reduction goals, including utilities projects, production equipment changes, and facility upgrades.
  • Assess project engineering risk and energy/cost reduction estimates, providing technical analysis and review for energy upgrade projects.
  • Develop scopes of work for consulting engineers and contractors, managing energy reduction project plans, including budgets and return on investment calculations.
  • Analyze and assess economic impacts of utility company rate structures, purchase programs, rebates, and incentives.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects focused on energy and water conservation and reduction.
  • Create monthly reports on energy upgrades progress.
  • Utilize internal and external resources to identify, plan, and execute energy and sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with energy regulations and share information with relevant site leadership and global executive stakeholders.
  • Develop a strategy for an energy management system based on continuous improvement, considering downtime, turnaround times, and waste reduction.
  • Lead site coordination of equipment risk registry for all equipment.

Qualifications

  • Define, optimize, and modify standard operating procedures (SOPs) to facilitate integration with an energy management system.
  • Act as an energy ambassador for the site, aligning site goals and ambitions, and communicating directly with site leadership.
  • Ensure approved contractors maintain compliance with internal Contractor Compliance program.
  • Maintain a high level of pharmaceutical compliance and regulatory safety in all aspects of work.
  • Follow GMP and regulatory requirements, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education

  • Bachelor of Engineering/Engineering Science degree is required.
  • P.Eng is an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in pharmaceutical, food/beverage, or consumer packaging.
  • 5+ years of experience considered an asset.
  • 2+ years in Energy and Utility management.
  • Demonstrated mastery of energy consumption modeling and use of measurement tools.
  • Knowledge of energy consumption optimization methods and technologies for equipment, processes, utilities, and building systems.
  • Able to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical, and P&ID drawings/schematics.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, problem-solving, and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills.
