Energy Performance Specialist

Job Summary
The Energy Performance Specialist will lead the development and implementation of energy-efficient solutions to reduce energy consumption and costs at the Cambridge site. This role will work closely with the site leadership and global executive team to align with the company's global sustainability plans and strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement energy-saving initiatives and projects to reduce energy consumption and costs.
- Analyze and optimize energy usage across the site, including utilities consumption and trending.
- Manage the energy performance monitoring system, including electric, gas, and water.
- Create and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for energy consumption and propose actions plans to improve performance and generate savings.
- Develop and use energy models to accurately represent energy use and consumption at workcentre, equipment, and facility levels.
- Identify, develop, plan, and implement projects and initiatives to meet goals and objectives and reduce energy consumption.
- Assess project engineering risk and energy/cost reduction estimates.
- Develop scopes of work for and manage consulting engineers and contractors.
- Develop energy reduction project plans, including budgets, return on investment, and payback calculations.
- Analyze and assess the economic impacts of utility company rate structures, purchase programs, rebates, and incentives.
- Lead continuous improvement projects focused on energy and water conservation and reduction.
- Create monthly reports on energy upgrades progress.
- Utilize internal and external resources to identify, plan, and execute initiatives and projects.
- Identify and lead energy and environmental sustainability, efficiency, capacity, and cost reduction initiatives with the Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Environmental Health, Safety, and other departments.
- Ensure compliance with energy regulations and ensure that information is collected and shared with the relevant site leadership and global executive stakeholders.
- Propose and implement a strategy to develop an energy management system based on continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Define, optimize, and modify standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed to facilitate integration with an energy management system.
- Energy ambassador for the site, aligning site goals and ambitions, and direct communication lead to site leadership.
- Ensure approved contractors maintain compliance with internal Contractor Compliance program.
- Maintain a high level of pharmaceutical compliance and regulatory safety in all aspects of work.
- Follow GMP and regulatory requirements, and ensure quality standards are met.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Education
- Bachelor of Engineering/Engineering Science degree is a requirement.
- P.Eng is an asset.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing environment, preferably in pharmaceutical, food/beverage, or consumer packaging.
- 5+ years of experience considered an asset.
- 2+ years in Energy and Utility management.
- Demonstrated mastery of energy consumption modeling and use of measurement tools.
- Knowledge of energy consumption optimization methods and technologies for equipment, processes, utilities, and building systems.
- Able to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical, and P&ID drawings/schematics.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrates initiative, problem-solving, and teamwork.
- Demonstrated Project Management skills.
