Building Department Manager/Director

destinationone Consulting is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Department Manager/Director to oversee and manage the operations of the building department. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of building codes, regulations, and safety standards, as well as excellent leadership and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the building department, including supervising staff, overseeing departmental operations, and ensuring effective performance.
- Policy Development: Develop, implement, and enforce policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Plan Review and Approval: Oversee the review and approval of building plans, permits, and inspections to ensure adherence to local codes and regulations.
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Coordinate with other municipal departments, agencies, and stakeholders to address and resolve building-related issues and facilitate project approvals.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate departmental performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
- Staff Development: Provide leadership and support to department staff, including training, mentoring, and performance management.
- Reporting and Communication: Prepare and present reports, budgets, and recommendations to municipal authorities and stakeholders regarding building department activities and initiatives.
- Professional Development: Stay informed about changes in building codes, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure departmental practices are up-to-date and effective.
- Education: Relevant certification or diploma in Building Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Proven experience in a management or leadership role within a building department or related area, with a strong understanding of building codes and regulations.
- Leadership Skills: Excellent leadership and organizational skills with experience in managing teams and departmental operations.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for addressing complex building and regulatory issues.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication skills for interacting with municipal officials, stakeholders, and the public.
- Strategic Planning: Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and strategic plans to improve departmental performance.
