Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Forensic Social Work Assistant, Clinical Support Specialist to join our team at PHSA. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality clinical support services to patients and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide clerical support to social work department regarding patient care related processes, including gathering charts, requesting, and receiving information from social work program, interdisciplinary team in Forensic Psychiatric Hospital (FPH), and the community.
  • Liaise with staff of social work and other interdisciplinary teams to provide program-related information, represent the assigned program by attending various meetings as required.
  • Schedule and book clinical appointments for the teams, prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports, and charts according to established procedures.
  • Prepare and mail packages containing consent forms and questionnaires to internal and external partners, monitor return of these documents and send out reminders as required.
  • Collect data from various sources, enter data into computerized systems, ensure data is kept up to date, gather, compile, and retrieve information in appropriate database, as required, and print related reports.
  • Set up and maintain patients and administrative filing systems, according to policies and procedures designed to protect confidentiality, for a variety of records such as correspondence, reports, minutes etc.
  • Upload patient paperwork into the database, monitor and request missing documents from clinical staff such as completed reports and assessment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized Social Service Worker or Social Service Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • General knowledge on social work, mental health, and substance services.
  • Demonstrate ability to relate well with others and with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, problem-solve, and effectively deal with conflict situations.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including basic knowledge of computer software Windows, MS Word).
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism, and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
