About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Forensic Psychologist to join our team at BCMHSUS. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive psychological assessments, risk assessments, and treatment planning for individuals with complex mental health and substance use challenges.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement treatment plans that address the unique needs of each individual, incorporating evidence-based practices and considerations for cultural safety and Indigenous reconciliation.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, social workers, and nurses, to provide holistic care and support.
  • Provide expert testimony in court proceedings, drawing on your extensive knowledge of forensic psychology and its applications in the justice system.
  • Participate in research initiatives, contributing to the development of new treatments and interventions for individuals with complex needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices, legislation, and policy developments in the field of forensic psychology.

Your Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Forensic Psychology or Clinical Psychology, with experience in a forensic and/or tertiary-level mental health context.
  • At least one year of direct clinical experience performing diagnostic assessments and treatment of adults in a forensic or tertiary-level mental health setting, including risk assessment and cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Current registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia, or secured within 18 months of hire.
  • Demonstrated expertise in treatment approaches for violent offenders, sexual offenders, or other specialized forensic psychology issues, including the evaluation of accused persons' response to treatment initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
