Nova Scotia Health Authority is a leading healthcare provider in Nova Scotia, Canada. We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Colchester East Hants Health Centre.

About the Opportunity

This long-assignment, part-time position involves preparing, packaging, and dispensing medication under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will be responsible for compounding sterile and non-sterile dosage forms, dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients, and participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Compounding of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms
  • Dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients
  • Preparing chemotherapy doses
  • Distributing narcotics
  • Participating in quality programs and patient safety initiatives
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have:


• Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program


• Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required


• Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset


• BLS (Basic Life Support) required


• Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset


• Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset


• Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset


• Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control and record keeping


• Demonstrated good decision making and problem solving skills


• Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications


• Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs


• Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.


• Effective communication and interpersonal skills


• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $24.96-$27.89 per hour. Registered Technicians may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
