Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Carpenter to join our team at the York Region District School Board. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our school buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Construct, finish, and install millwork, including building modifications and repairs
  • Prepare project cost estimates and oversee construction projects
  • Maintain building infrastructure, including painting and minor drywall repairs
  • Conduct preventative maintenance checks and repairs
  • Schedule and prioritize workloads on a daily basis
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and employer policies

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 and a Journeyman certificate in carpentry (minimum 2 years of experience as a certified journeyman or an equivalent combination of experience and education)
  • Technical courses related to the journeyman discipline are an asset
  • Power engineering courses are an asset
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator's Licence
  • Defensive driving course completion
  • First Aid, WHMIS, & TDG Certification
  • Proficiency with various types of software, including work-order systems
  • Understanding of BAS (building automation systems)
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with others in a team environment

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
