About the Role
Kiewit is seeking a highly skilled Senior Safety Manager to join our team. As a Senior Safety Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of our employees, subcontractors, and clients on our construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Planning and Implementation:
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to industrial construction projects.
- Ensure that safety protocols are aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Kiewit's safety standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
- Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors.
- Provide guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.
- Incident Management and Investigation:
- Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents.
- Analyze root causes of incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to bridge and marine construction.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities during inspections and audits.
- Safety Performance Monitoring:
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects.
- Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
Requirements
- Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally with a focus on industrial projects.
- Professional certification in safety management (ie. CNESST) preferred.
- CPR/First Aid, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications are preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, Quebec regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
- Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed.

- Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
- May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
