About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professional to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a GIS Project Coordinator - Protected Areas, you will play a key role in supporting our protected areas program by leading the development, review, and implementation of GIS projects related to protected areas planning and management.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Lead the development, review, and implementation of GIS projects related to protected areas planning and management.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment, gathering and compiling information from staff to create functional products.
  • Create technical reports and manuals associated with projects and workflows.
  • Provide timely responses and prioritize requests for maps, data analysis, and other GIS support.
  • Compile, edit, and maintain data in geographic and operational databases, including providing data summary and analysis.
  • Support GIS and non-GIS staff with the development and/or upgrade of ArcGIS Online applications.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have a diploma in GIS and a bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Ecology, Land Conservation, Planning, or a related natural resource management-based science.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) - specifically ArcPro.
  • Strong analytical, cartographic, data management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in creating interactive maps and authoring applications in ArcGIS Online.
  • Experience in creating technical reports and manuals.

Working Conditions

You must be willing and able to travel throughout Nova Scotia and work irregular hours when deemed necessary.
