Overview:


World Education Services (WES) is seeking a highly skilled Strategic Grantmaking and Program Development Lead to join our team. This individual will be responsible for managing the Fund's grantmaking and programmatic initiatives in Canada, ensuring that those initiatives contribute to the Fund's social impact goals and reflect its values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.



About the Role:


The Director, Canada Strategy & Programs will oversee the development and implementation of grantmaking strategies and programmatic approaches that advance economic, educational, and social inclusion for immigrants, refugees, and international students in Canada. This role requires strong analytical skills to break down complex problems into component parts and frame trade-offs in decision-making.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Canada Grantmaking Strategy & Execution (35%):

    • Develop and implement grantmaking strategies and programmatic approaches that contribute to the Fund's and Social Impact's goals.
    • Approve the award of select grants and donations made through the Fund's budget.
    • Lead the Canada Grants & Programs team in strategy, program development, and learning activities.
    • Recommend select, larger grants to senior leadership for approval.
    • Establish JEDI-driven approaches to source and select potential grantee partners.
    • Collaborate with Partnerships staff to secure additional resources and expertise.


  • Strategic Support & Programming for the Fund's Partner Community (35%):

    • Oversee the strategy development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of the Fund's one-on-one and community-based approaches to support grantee partners.
    • Develop and implement critical technical assistance, peer-to-peer, and/or partner support programs.
    • Work closely with the Social Impact and Fund Communications teams to raise the visibility of grantee partners.


  • People Management, Operational Management & Internal Engagement (30%):

    • Manage an annual grantmaking and operational budget of over $2 million.
    • Provide leadership to the MAF team as a member of MAF's Leadership and Operations (L&O) team.
    • Contribute to positive team culture and build cooperation among team members.
    • Manage program staff and provide timely forecasting on budget and capacity needs.


Requirements:



  • 8-10+ years of relevant work and/or education experience in philanthropy, workforce development, education, public policy, or social enterprise sectors.
  • Experience with issues affecting the economic mobility of immigrants and refugees.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and drive work in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and project management experience.
  • Previous people management experience and ability to manage high-performing colleagues.

Location:


This position is remote-based with occasional travel to meet with grantee partners and attend conferences.



Estimated Salary:


$125,000 - $135,000 per year.
