Senior Development Officer

Job Summary:
The Senior Development Officer will provide strategic leadership and planning for major giving and leadership donor programs to grow JUMP Math's base of major gift donors and partners. This role will work closely with the CEO, Founder, and VP of Development and Strategic Partnerships to build a pipeline of qualified leads to cultivate, solicit, and steward to raise funds to fulfill JUMP Math's mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage a portfolio of approximately 50 prospects and donors at different levels of engagement from identification/qualification through to cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Participate in and support the development of program priorities/campaign catalogue of opportunities for donors and prospects.
- Support efforts to prepare JUMP Math for a future comprehensive campaign.
- Co-develop and implement a targeted strategy to increase revenue from medium to high-net-worth individuals and organizations.
- Craft personalized and engaging proposals, letters, and presentations that align with the interests and philanthropic goals of leadership donors and major donors.
- Work with the senior leadership and board of directors to identify funder opportunities and reach or exceed annual fundraising goals.
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship:
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with major donors, including regular meetings, personalized communications, and appropriate recognition activities.
- Collaborate with partners to create and execute tailored stewardship plans to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of major donors, ensuring gifts are handled and recognized according to JUMP Math policies and practices.
- Provide ongoing updates to donors on the impact of their gifts and the progress of the organization's programs.
- Work with gifts processing support team to ensure that acknowledgements, tax receipts, invitations, and other correspondence are sent in a timely manner.
Strategic Planning & Reporting:
- Collaborate with the VP Development and Strategic Partnerships and CEO to establish goals and strategies for major gift and leadership gift fundraising.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of major gift campaigns, providing regular reports on progress, outcomes, and insights.
- Adjust strategies as needed to ensure targets are met and exceeded.
- Utilize Raiser's Edge database to track and report on major gift and leadership gift donors and prospects.
Donor Research & Prospecting:
- Work closely with team and external vendors to conduct in-depth prospect research to identify and evaluate potential major gift prospects.
- Utilize data and analytics to prioritize and strategize outreach efforts for maximum impact.
Collaboration & Team Leadership:
- Work closely with the development team to align major gift strategies with broader fundraising efforts and organizational goals.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to staff and senior volunteers involved in major gift initiatives.
Requirements:
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of colleagues and build new and long-term relationships with prospects, donors, and senior level volunteers.
- Strong ability to inspire, persuade, and motivate diverse groups of donors, prospects, and partners.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented with a strong follow-through and time management skills.
- Strong strategic thinking skills, with previous experience in managing a portfolio of major gift or leadership donors.
- Experience with using donor management software and CRM systems (Raiser's Edge preferred but not required, training would be provided).
- Tact, diplomacy, judgment, and the ability to analyze and problem-solve.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.

Education and Experience (minimums):
- A post-secondary degree or diploma; or equivalent work experience in fundraising, non-profit/charity sector, or sales/revenue generation in the private sector.
- 5 years of experience in fundraising, with a proven track record of securing 5-7 figure gifts or corporate partnerships.
- Experience in all aspects of major gift fundraising, including cultivation and solicitation of gifts.
- Demonstrated success in building and nurturing relationships with medium to high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and/or corporations.
- Previous success in maintaining a portfolio of donors/prospects/funders/partners, with meticulous moves management processes.
- Experience in proposal writing and presentations to donors/prospects.
- Experience with data management systems.
- A passion for education and the opportunity to positively impact the lives of children and learners.
- CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive designation) would be an asset but is not a requirement.
