Position Summary

Data Analyst, Decision Support

As a Data Analyst in our Decision Support department, you will play a key role in facilitating evidence-based decision making at North York General Hospital. You will work closely with health system administrators and professionals to analyze data and provide insights that inform strategic directions. Your expertise in data analysis and visualization will help us make data-driven decisions that improve patient care and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate and analyze clinical and utilization/administrative data to produce reports that support decision making
  • Provide centralized consulting services through education, communication, and presentations to all levels of management
  • Develop and implement analytical approaches/methodologies to drive stakeholders toward making data-driven/evidence-informed decisions
  • Extract data, develop, and generate standard reports, and respond to ad-hoc requests using Business Intelligence (BI) tools
  • Assist with benchmarking activities related to clinical and corporate performance data
  • Provide critical analysis of data to assist clinical teams with optimizing the use of clinical practice guidelines
  • Prepare custom reports for day-to-day business use, and data quality and validation purposes
  • Perform quality control reviews, including data processing flow analysis, to ensure reliability and accuracy of collected data
  • Coordinate and implement Decision Support-related projects through the phases of project management
  • Track and analyze key corporate performance indicators
  • Provide guidance and expertise with respect to indicator and metric development for performance monitoring
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support reporting and evaluation projects
  • Support and help advance the Data & Analytics Governance program
  • Coach and explain technical matters to other staff and assist BI Report writers and other staff in the hospital

Qualifications

  • Degree in Health Information or a related field (Business Administration, Computer Science, Statistics, Health Sciences, or Health Information Management, mathematics, or data science), or equivalent education/experience
  • Three to five years of experience working with databases and various health information systems
  • Experience with data science solutions, including data analysis and linkage, data modeling, and advanced analytics
  • In-depth knowledge of databases used to capture information in various health sectors, including hospital databases, data tools, provincial/regional data repositories, and hospital standards
  • Expert knowledge of SQL and advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of statistical tools, such as R, Python, etc.
  • Experience with BI tools, such as Cognos, PowerBI, and Tableau
  • Proficient in the use of Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Word)
  • Strong data management and statistical analysis skills required
  • Experience with information systems used for managing and reporting clinical and corporate data
