As a Crew Leader at Railserve, Canada, you will play a vital role in overseeing daily activities and ensuring your team has the necessary resources to perform tasks efficiently. Your responsibilities will include determining work priorities, collaborating with the Panel Technician and Rail Technical advisor, and facilitating Turn Over meetings to emphasize safety and production.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Delegate work flow and prioritize tasks with the Panel Technician and Rail Technical advisor.
  • Ensure equipment and housekeeping checklists are completed properly and on time.
  • Facilitate Turn Over meetings and drive the emphasis on safety over production.
  • Audit and work alongside crew members to provide constructive feedback during quarterly reviews.
  • Support all activities sponsored by Railserve and the Customer, including team building events.
  • Flexibility in scheduling.
  • Support the area Training Coordinator in developing your crew's training and track opportunities for learning new areas.
  • Participate in training for leadership and management principles.
  • Collaborate with other members of the department's natural work teams and subject matter experts to ensure uninterrupted Site Logistics facility operations.
  • Actively participate in the Site Logistics EH&S programs, including peer to peer auditing and Safe Work Permitting.
  • Utilize established tools, processes, and procedures to assist in the review and update process.
  • Comply with the department's Operating Discipline Management System (ODMS).
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator and/or other PPE that covers the face.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma (or equivalent) preferred.
  • 6+ months experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Remain neutral to speculations made by crews and limit discussion unless it leads to a solution or understanding.
  • Promote a healthy working relationship that ensures success for all crews.
  • Ensure customer expectations are met, including tracking max loads and heels.
  • Have knowledge of customer's and Railserve's global tools, including GVP, My learning, Observation, and Interaction audits.
  • Remain calm and natural in tense situations involving mechanical and people issues.
  • Superior communication skills, including verbal, non-verbal, and written communication.
  • Ability to assess multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work well with others as part of a team.
Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders quickly; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy weights (over 50 pounds). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

This incumbent regularly works in an outdoor environment, in various weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic chemicals, and must be able to wear a respirator and/or other PPE that covers the face. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
