About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Surgical Unit Assistant to join our dynamic team at North York General Hospital. As a key member of our Inpatient Surgery Unit, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the organization and optimal function of the Inpatient Surgery Unit, working collaboratively with physicians, registered nurses, and unit secretaries to provide exceptional patient care.
  • Support patient flow and enhance patient-family centered care in the Inpatient Surgery Unit.
  • Utilize excellent written and verbal communication skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Participate in interprofessional care teams and maintain collaborative working relationships to provide supportive care in the Operating Room.
  • Provide patient-centered direct patient care, following the guidance of a regulated healthcare provider.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence in the English language.
  • Communicate changing work priorities to colleagues and provide feedback to nursing staff on patient requests and needs.
  • Establish positive rapport with patients, families, and team members.
  • Collaborate with centralized departments to obtain services, such as housekeeping and linen.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

  • High school or general education (GED)
  • Completed Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate from a College of Applied Arts and Technology
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience an asset
  • Bilingualism in French/English is an asset

This is a Part-Time Permanent position with 8 and 12 hour shifts, Days and Weekends in the Inpatient Surgery Unit.
