Operations Lead Job Description

Vancouver Convention Centre, a division of BC Pavilion Corporation, is seeking a highly skilled Operations Lead to join our team. As a key member of our Guest Services Operations Centre (GSOC), you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our events and the safety of our guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the safety and security of the building and surrounding area, including monitoring suspicious activities and deploying security resources as needed.
  • Support the Operations Manager in executing facility and event-related activations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with access control, signage, deliveries, shipping and receiving, public safety, and security protocols.
  • Investigate incidents, write reports, and distribute them accordingly.
  • Act as Site Liaison in emergency response, serving as Incident Commander during emergency situations and providing backup support as needed.
  • Ensure operational levels are set, including signage, access, lighting, elevators, and escalators.
  • Manage the security provider, providing leadership to staff and auditing deployments to ensure missed positions are covered and documented.
  • Manage delivery systems, responding to inquiries, dispatching resources, and ensuring entry guidelines are followed.
  • Conduct post-event inspections, ensuring spaces are clear and ready for the next event and following up on event leftovers or conversion issues.
  • Ensure back-of-house areas are kept clear, coordinating with suppliers to remove items from corridors.
  • Enforce safety regulations, including emergency exiting pathways, implementing safety zones, and ensuring clients and suppliers are familiar with safety and security measures.
  • Monitor building integrity and condition, reporting via Facility Services Request.
  • Enforce on-site parking regulations for clients, suppliers, and staff.
  • Maintain a detailed and published log of activities during each shift.
  • Manage high-value lost and found items stored in the GSOC safe.
  • Participate in department and pre- and post-event planning meetings as required.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in security and/or event operations is preferred.
  • Valid BC Security Worker License with a Security Guard license type is an asset.
  • Completion of Incident Command Levels 100 and 200 or equivalent is an asset.
  • 3-5 years of event industry, venue operations, public safety, and emergency response experience is preferred.
  • Sound working knowledge of standard software applications, including Ungerboeck (EBMS), Microsoft Office Programs, iPads, iPhones, and cloud-based software.
  • Basic knowledge of the event industry, venue operations, and procedures across multiple departments and buildings at VCC.
  • Good understanding of security operations, including CCTV, Access Control, and Life Safety Systems.
  • Comfortable using a broad range of communications styles and able to choose effective ways to communicate to different audiences.
  • Maintain emotional composure while multi-tasking during stressful situations.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize conflicting requirements in a timely manner.
