Job Overview: Pricing Analyst

We're seeking a detail-oriented Pricing Analyst to join our national Pricing team, based in either Toronto or Montréal. This entry-level position offers the chance to support critical aspects of our pricing and matter management program, including data analysis, planning, monitoring, budgeting, and reporting. You'll gain valuable experience in financial analytics, budgeting, and pricing strategy within a law firm setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial and pricing insights to support the Pricing team in developing fee estimates, matter budgets, and pricing options in response to client RFPs and ad hoc pricing requests.
  • Assist with estimate development by analyzing and applying historical matter data.
  • Manage a database of pricing engagements and fee proposals, ensuring accurate classification and follow-up on outcomes.
  • Conduct post-matter financial analysis to leverage historical data and insights for future pricing and improved financial performance.
  • Support daily operations of the firm's pricing and matter management program, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across all areas, including managing matter plans and templates.
  • Identify suitable matters for tracking by phase/task, complete necessary follow-ups, and ensure proper coding.
  • Assign phase/task codes to new files using appropriate templates or customized plans based on client and matter requirements.
  • Set up matter budgets, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Coordinate ad-hoc reporting requests and handle time-entry coding needs.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain matter management systems for smooth operations.
  • Prepare reporting on firm clients and matters to meet business and client demands.
  • Collaborate with the Pricing and Legal Project Management teams to enhance tools and processes related to pricing, matter estimates, tracking, and reporting, as well as post-matter analysis.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, Information Science, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience is preferred, ideally in pricing, accounting, billing, project management, or a quantitative-focused role within a law firm, corporate legal department, or professional services organization.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy with numbers.
  • Excellent project and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, manage conflicting priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in data manipulation, with the ability to present findings to key stakeholders.
  • Basic programming knowledge and familiarity with SQL.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • A collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Keen interest in and aptitude for using technology to enhance efficiency.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills; experience with financial analysis tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Aderant Expert or similar legal financial software is an asset.
  • Ability to learn, leverage, and use additional programs, including budgeting and financial management software.
  • Working knowledge of French is an asset.

Payscale: $55,000 - $75,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. We offer a competitive compensation package, opportunities for growth and development, and a dynamic work environment.
