We are seeking a highly skilled Business Analyst to join our Pricing team at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP.

About the Role:

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and develop effective solutions. As a Business Analyst, you will be responsible for gathering and analyzing historical pricing data, matter planning, monitoring, budgeting, and reporting.

You will work closely with the Pricing team to provide financial and pricing analysis to support the development of fee estimates, matter budgets, and pricing options in response to client RFPs and ad hoc pricing requests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and apply historical matter data to assist with the development of estimates
  • Manage a database of pricing engagements and fee proposals, ensuring accurate classification and follow-up on outcomes
  • Assist with post-matter financial analysis to utilize historical matter data and related insights to inform future pricing decisions and improve financial performance
  • Identify matters suitable for tracking by phase/task, complete necessary follow-ups, and ensure proper coding
  • Coordinate ad hoc reporting requests and handle time-entry coding needs
  • Collaborate with the Pricing and Legal Project Management teams to improve tools and processes related to pricing, matter estimates, matter tracking, and reporting

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, Information Science, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience in pricing, accounting, billing, project management, or a quantitative-focused role within a law firm, corporate legal department, or professional services organization
  • Excellent project and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, manage conflicting priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in data manipulation and presentation of findings to key stakeholders
  • Basic programming knowledge and familiarity with SQL
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills; experience with financial analysis tools is a plus
  • Familiarity with Aderant Expert or similar legal financial software is an asset
  • Ability to learn, leverage, and use additional programs, including budgeting and financial management software
  • Working knowledge of French is an asset
