Job Summary:

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the payroll processing function, ensuring the accuracy of employee payroll information, and maintaining compliance with all applicable Federal and provincial payroll laws, regulations, and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process weekly salary payroll and monthly Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
  • Review and verify payroll data processed by the Payroll Administrator.
  • Process special payments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and provincial payroll laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Analyze payroll data and identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources in the administration of the Pension, RRSP, and group benefits program.
  • Prepare payroll-related filings and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and balance period-end reports and reconcile issued payrolls to the general ledger.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly payroll-related payments and reporting.
  • Assist with payroll, benefit, or pension-related audits.
  • Manage relationships with external payroll vendors.
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees and respond to payroll inquiries and issues.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role.
  • Post Secondary Diploma.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification is required.
  • Experience processing payroll through Ceridian Dayforce.
  • Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and practice discretion in handling confidential and sensitive material.
  • Must be a team player with a flexible work style and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
