Laurel Steel, a leading supplier of cold-finish bar, cold-drawn wire, and mesh products, is seeking a skilled Payroll Specialist to join its team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the payroll processing function, ensuring the accuracy of employee payroll information, and maintaining compliance with all applicable Federal and provincial payroll laws, regulations, and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing of the weekly salary payroll as well as the monthly Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
  • Reviewing the weekly hourly and contract payroll processed by the Payroll Administrator.
  • Process special payments as needed.
  • Analyze payroll data and identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources in the administration of the Pension, RRSP, and group benefits program, including payments and monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare payroll-related filings and supporting documentation, such as year-end tax statements, pension, Records of Employment, Workers' Compensation, and other statements.
  • Prepare and balance period-end reports and reconcile issued payrolls to the general ledger.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly payroll-related payments and reporting as required.
  • Assist with any payroll, benefit, or pension-related audits.
  • Manage relationships with external payroll vendors, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of payroll data and processing.
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees and respond to payroll inquiries and issues in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, a Post Secondary Diploma, and Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, particularly Microsoft Excel, is also required.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality and practice discretion in handling sensitive material.
