Job Summary:

The Underground Construction Manager is a key management position responsible for planning and day-to-day operations of mine-related construction projects within the Prairie Division. This role provides technical and operational direction to Project Superintendents and Engineers and serves as a key on-site liaison with client representatives, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure construction operations are well-organized, coordinated, and comply with client and regulatory requirements.
  2. Develop construction plans for sites to ensure project completion.
  3. Assist the estimating team as a technical expert for construction projects.
  4. Ensure projects meet budget and timelines by reviewing work requirements, schedules, and cost reports on a continuous basis and participating in project reviews and forecasting.
  5. Ensure strict adherence to all safety programs and policies.
  6. Analyze technical construction issues and develop appropriate solutions.
  7. Coordinate all resource requirements for projects, including personnel, equipment, materials, etc.
  8. Maintain strong working relationships at job sites with client representatives, subcontractors, suppliers, and employees.
  9. Participate in the recruitment and selection of qualified employees.
  10. Supervise personnel and address staff development requirements, including assessing performance and identifying training needs.
  11. Manage the mobilization of resources for new projects and ensure that activities are coordinated in an efficient and timely fashion.
  12. Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives to enhance project efficiency and profitability.
  13. Manage contractual agreements, change orders, and claims to mitigate project risks and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
Requirements:
  1. Years of underground mine and surface-related construction experience as a Construction or Operations Manager or similar direct supervisory role.
  2. Engineering Degree, Technical Diploma, Journeyman Trade Certificate, or equivalent work experience.
  3. Demonstrated leadership skills in building a strong safety culture.
  4. Solid understanding of current construction practices and previous mine construction experience is an asset.
  5. Experience in civil/mechanical/electrical/structural construction.
  6. Experience developing construction estimates and working with the proposal team developing construction methodologies as part of bid submissions.
  7. Experience working with EPCM oversight.
  8. Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project safety, quality, schedule, and budget.
  9. Strong foundation in project management, contracts, and the execution of projects from the estimating stage through construction.
  10. Solid understanding of the procedural needs for modern construction planning, FIWP, SWP's, etc.
  11. Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholders' needs, and identify solutions.
  12. Capable of anticipating constructability issues in complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule. Able to influence and persuade others to adopt a point of view.
  13. Track record of building successful teams and promoting teamwork through motivation, coaching, and consensus-building.
  14. Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  15. Strong communication (written, and verbal) and computer skills are critical. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook with the ability to use scheduling software.
