Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Underground Construction Manager to join our team in Saskatoon, SK. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing underground mining-related projects in our Prairie Division, providing technical and operational direction to project superintendents and engineers, and ensuring compliance with client and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement construction plans to ensure project completion on time and within budget.
  • Provide technical expertise to the estimating team and assist in developing construction estimates.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety programs and policies, and analyze technical construction issues to develop solutions.
  • Coordinate resource requirements, including personnel, equipment, and materials, and maintain strong working relationships with client representatives, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Supervise personnel, address staff development requirements, and participate in the recruitment and selection of qualified employees.
  • Manage contractual agreements, change orders, and claims to mitigate project risks and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in underground mine and surface-related construction as a construction or operations manager or similar direct supervisory role.
  • Engineering degree, technical diploma, journeyman trade certificate, or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in building a strong safety culture.
  • Solid understanding of current construction practices and previous mine construction experience is an asset.
  • Experience in civil/mechanical/electrical/structural construction, developing construction estimates, and working with EPCM oversight.
  • Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project safety, quality, schedule, and budget.
  • Strong foundation in project management, contracts, and the execution of projects from the estimating stage through construction.
  • Solid understanding of procedural needs for modern construction planning, FIWP, SWP's, etc.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholders' needs, and identify solutions.
  • Capable of anticipating constructability issues in complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule.
  • Track record of building successful teams and promoting teamwork through motivation, coaching, and consensus-building.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication (written, and verbal) and computer skills are critical. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and able to use scheduling software.
